Dear Educators and Parents,

I am the founder and president of Method Test Prep, as well as the father of twin fifth graders whose schools have been cancelled for at least the next few weeks due to the COVID-19 coronavirus. This widespread disruption of the normal school year is unprecedented. Like many parents, my wife and I will be keeping our kids busy with learning activities for at least part of the day during which they would have been in school. For those of you who are educators and parents in the more than 1,500 districts that provide Method Test Prep’s web-based program to all teachers and students, I strongly recommend using our program to improve students’ grammar, math, reading comprehension, and vocabulary skills while schools remain closed. Students can use a phone, tablet, or laptop to listen to the audio lessons and watch the video explanations within. Because we’ve centered the program around an intuitively designed checklist of 15-minute tasks to follow, students won’t need any training to start making progress. Teachers and other school personnel can easily monitor how much work each student has completed, how their students have performed, and even which concepts have given their students the most trouble. If you have any questions about how to get started with Method Test Prep, please reach out to support@methodtestprep.com or give us a call at 1-877-871-PREP. We will help you get going immediately.

For those of you in districts that don’t have access to our program, we are offering schools an extended free trial of Method Test Prep for the rest of this school year and summer. If you are interested in learning more, simply reach out to support@methodtestprep.com or give us a call at 1-877-871-PREP. Again, we will have you up and running immediately.

As disruptive and frightening as this pandemic has been, it is imperative—now, more than ever—that we do not allow fear and uncertainty to prevent our children from learning skills that will be crucial to their future success. And it is precisely this—the future—that we all must embrace in times of crisis. In education, we often discuss adopting a “growth mindset”—an attitude of continual improvement. This is the kind of thinking that I and all of my colleagues at Method Test Prep encourage all educators and parents to foster in their children. During the unexpected downtime brought by school cancellations, our students can learn new skills, open books, find interesting podcasts, get outside, write in a journal, and do much more to enrich themselves and those around them. Some would call this thinking idealistic—I say it is exactly what our children need to emerge from this challenge as fuller human beings with brighter futures.

Method Test Prep can be a big part of this growth mindset: access to our full set of grammar, math, reading comprehension, and vocabulary lessons and practice sets is just a login away. As I write on this Sunday (March 15th) afternoon, my 11-year-old daughter is in the next room over working on a reading comprehension program her school sent home. She enjoys the program, she is engaged with its content, and she is sharpening her skills. We may need to stay home for the next few weeks, but when she returns to school, she’ll be doing so with some new skills under her belt.

Sincerely,

Tom Ehlers
