Gifted and Talented Students Can Benefit From Tutoring As Much As Other Students

drawing.jpegGifted and talented students, also commonly referred to as GT kids, are known for being exceptionally strong in some subjects. However, many people fail to realize that being strong in one group of subjects does not mean these students do not need help in any subjects. It is not uncommon for GT kids to easily become masters of creative subjects such as the arts or English and writing while struggling in more fact based subjects such as math and science. The opposite also occurs where students that are strong in math and science based subjects will struggle in the more creative ones. Due to their strengths, many teachers and parents feel that gifted and talented students don't needtutoring or won't benefit from it. This couldn't be farther from the truth.

Due to the GT label, many teachers fail to give gifted and talented students the attention they need in subjects that are not as easy for them to master. While many GT kids are capable of passing in their worst subjects, they often fail to reach their full potential when left to figure things out on their own. These students may not need as much tutoring as others because they naturally pick skills up faster than their peers, but they still need some one on one time to truly master subjects that they are weak in. Without tutoring in their weakest subjects, GT kids usually do not reach their full potential, and like every student, reaching their full potential is essential to getting into the college of their choice.

Gifted and talented students have extraordinary strengths in some academic areas, but that is no reason to deny them tutoring in their weaker subjects. For more information about tutoring, feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to help you find the best match for you and your student.
