sat test datesThe regular deadline to sign up for an SAT test date is approximately one month before that date.  The easiest way to register for an SAT test date is to go to www.collegeboard.com.

There is a late registration period for each SAT test date that goes for approximately two weeks after the regular deadline.  If a student signs up during this late registration period, it costs an additional $24 to register.

Once you decide which SAT test date you want, the earlier you sign up, the better so that you get your first choice of testing location. As far as a strategy for which SAT test dates are better, there are rumors and myths that some SAT test dates feature easier tests.  This is simply not true.

One thing to keep in mind is that the SAT offers the Question and Answer service for the January, May, and October SAT test dates.  Students who order this service will have the entire test booklet and their answer key mailed to them so they can see exactly which questions they answered correctly and incorrectly.  This is an extremely valuable service and we recommend that every student orders this service.

As far as how many SAT test dates a student should sign up for, the answer is 2 or 3.  Students should take the test at least twice because most students do better the second time but students should not take the test more than 3 times because if the student prepares properly the first 3 times, it is unlikely that taking the test a fourth or fifth time will raise their score significantly.
