I have talked to about 10,000 Moms over the last 15 years. Here is how many of these calls have gone:
Mom: "I am not sure if I know all of the ins and outs of this ACT/SAT process. Are there better times to take these tests? Is the ACT or SAT going to be the better test? Is the New SAT going to be easier?"
Me: "Yes. Depends. No. Any other questions?...just kidding. I will answer all of your questions and walk you through this entire process. It is all we do, all day, every day so the questions you have are the same questions we have gotten from thousands of other parents for the last 15 years. So let me start with your first question. The best times to take the SAT are January and May of a student's junior year. Let me explain why..."
The first conversation I have with a parent usually takes about 20 minutes. The parent always says at the end, "Thank you so much. This is such a weight off my mind. You have made this process seem so much simpler."
